Am I crazy for not wanting to date someone who Smokes cigarettes? I quit smoking cigarettes almost 2 mos ago. Well I met a man about 4 wks ago. We had alot of things in common. The communication, trust and he was not a jealous type of man at all. Which is really rare now a days. I really liked this man. But he smokes. Have you ever heard an expression "Kissing a smoker is like **** a ashtray"? And when me and him kissed he did taste like an ashtray. I didn't enjoy kissing. I know this is sad. Hope to hear some input here. Thank you.
No, I can understand your motivations totally. Unfortunately, the trouble with smoking is
1) It will kill the smoker, so it's not good news for a long long term relationship
2) It's pretty rank
3) If someone is a smoker and cannot quit then it could (I must stress, *could*) be an indication of unresolved internal issues. I am not saying this is the case, but I have noticed that a number of long-term smokers do have problems that they don't really deal with. Before all the smokers start crying out, can I emphasise that this is only in my experience and is not a hard and fast rule
I am an ex-smoker myself, and I am so glad to have got rid of the habit. It is a life choice, in my opinion.

I exactly know I cant have relations with a smoking man. Smell is more important for me than appearance.
I understand your feelings about relations with the smoking man.

Unresolved issues are quintessentially mental health issues. A sure-fire indication of someone with low-level mental health problems is a compulsive tendency to cross other people's boundaries, and an inability to hold discussions without resorting to "getting personal".
I do not condemn smokers, I simply notice that sometimes smoking *can* be a symptom of other issues. Merlotplease, thank-you. You have also clarified a suspicion I had about people who smoke Cannabis, a far more accurate indicator of unresolved issues. Incidentally, Cannabis was used as a truth serum in the 40's - users become loquacious and unguarded in their imparting of information.

i am a smoker but could give it up in a second....if i wanted too or if i met someone who didnt smoke that hated it.
i smoke out of boredom or socially with a drink as nowadays most people are outside because of the ban,so it seem more sociable to be a smoker.
i know it is bad for you and you could get cancer but everyday we are being told that something else can give you cancer!!

If you smoke, smoking will be the one thing that is 90% likely to kill you in the end. I do agree, the social aspect is the toughest thing about it.
Sarah, you should quit, but I guess it's got to be the right time for you.
Consider This:
Costs a fortune quit now and stay quit for the rest of your life, at your young age you will have just earnt yourself the equivalent of £333,334.00p. Not bad for not lighting up. And you will live longer to spend your cash.
These figures are based on smoking 20/day.

John has made some good points and attracted some attention too !
I have helped a pregnant partner to stop smoking 15 years ago and she never restarted afaik.
It's unrerasonable to expect a non smoker to put up with the habit - nothing to do with victimisation of the habituated!
I realise nicotine is considered more addictive than H- so why does the |Gov't collude in taxing it and making it seem OK?
Surely not just for the money? - and so many get ill.
Pot just leads the flaky over the edge, it seems.

hi every one, i am a non smoker, also an ash...matic, get it ASH !! well i thought it was good. i have never smoked and if i did it would probably kill me, i used to work in a highly smoke filled enviroment, averaged 3 sickies a year .....now i have not been off through my asthma for over 3yrs. as regarding going out with some one who smokes it would not be my choice , but i respect the rights of smokers to do so if it does not impede on any one else, when i look at some ones profile and they smoke i look else where , when a lady looks at my profile and i am not at least 5.10 she looks elsewhere, down to choice( yes i do have a height issue , thats another debate) what i cant understand though is what is an occaisional smoker...and why do some women say they smoke as a slimming aid.

This is because smoking is an appetite suppressant. But I suspect it is often used as an excuse to look less hooked!
It is the very devil to quit -and being with a smoker can possibly lead to restarting. That's my exp.

I'm an ex-smoker, and have been for 2 years. My only worry about dating a smoker is that I'll fancy a cigarette and start smoking again. I still love the smell of second hand cigarette smoke and am quite happy to stand outside a pub chatting to the smokers so I can inhale the fumes.
Perhaps I should check myself into rehab now.

Hiya just read your message (quoted above) I packed up smoking 17 years ago, and from 50 a day yes 50. I went to zero immediately. No cutting down to 20 a day etc I just stopped. Now I can smell some of those people that walk past and yes they stink, I never knew how much I stank but now I wouldn't go out with a woman (That's taking it I get an offer) who smokes I've got 2 lovely friends and he smokes continuously, She doesn't and I went round the other week asked her why she had a scarf round her mouth? She replied because of the stink of those cigarettes. I don't go there in nice clothes because when I undress at night the clothes just reek of stale smoke and to all you smokers out there. Take note. You just stink, it's no good cleaning your teeth it's your lungs where the smell is coming from.
So there you go if they smoke don't date.If I could pack up so can you. It's as simple as that.

Sarah you said in a previous post it's for social reasons you smoke. You're only kidding yourself because you can't pack it in and want an excuse to smoke it's that plain and simple. If I still smoked it would cost me about £90 a week.
