I love musicals, they always make me wish I hadn't given up dancing when I was younger *sigh*, anyway back to the real world... Chicago is my favourite - adore all the songs

Not too much of a fan of 'those' types of musicals............although there are some songs that make your hair stand on end (e.g. You'll Never Walk Alone), but love things like The Blues brothers, The Rocky Horror Show and Be-Bop-a-lula!

Let's do the Time Warp again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So-so Socialista

Agrees with both ladies on there choices......rocky horror is twisted with a hint of dirty, whilst the blues brothers is one of all time faves...went to the house of blues in new orleans years ago..and lo and behold, dan akroyd was on set....that man can play the harmonica. I also like sarahlou's post....chicago is damn fine........my own personal fave is singin in the rain, watching it live just brings me back to being a kid watching gene kelly ,now that man could dance!

They say the sign of a good musical is humming one of the tunes as you leave the theatre.  That being the case Les Mis or Blood Brothers have to be up there as two of the best!

Have always said I'm not a great fan of musicals so am surprised  that all my 'likes' have been listed. Of the two above I regret that I haven't seen Blood Brothers. The Glums is certeainly a two pkts of tissues job, but I don't think it would translate vto the screen; its more operatic than musical.
The others are West Side Story and the Rocky Horror Picture Show - couldn't go to a theatre production 'cos I don't look at my best in basque & fishnets!
Oddly, I have enjoyed a couple of others as theatre, not film. Probably no-one has heard of them; Good Golly, Miss Molly and I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire, but I,m probably a bit biased because they were set around where I lived at the time and I was frindly with the author. Another of his I'd like to see is Lennon with which he had an off-Broadway success.
I guess that my stated dislike must be of movies where they break into irrelevant song at the drop of a hat.
Best single song in a non-musical movie? Has to be The Camptown Ladies in Blazing Saddles.
